(3-CD set) Artist Sapho, born in Morocco, a celebrated singer in France, reads – in French– “Les Milles et une nuits” (1001 Nights). Her voice and character slip into Sheherazade and incarnates the distant East, including the Mediterranean, Persia and India, being a little pagan, Christian, Jewish and Muslim. Her narration is above all a fight against the fatal death sentence for each of Shariar’s wives ever since he had been ridiculed by a voluptuous sultana. Fremeaux & Associes recently released another 3-CD set with Sapho reading the follow-up, under the ref. FMX 8029.
